Husky: Mandy & Rufus

A recent rush assignment had me trying to get photographs of people/pet interaction. It rained most of the day I had to do this and the sky was dim and especially difficult for shooting indoors with ambient light. Cat photos were hit and miss but mostly a miss despite the great subjects. I was lucky enough to get introduced to this magnificent husky and his amazing guardian. With virtually no winter in Boston this year, a small pack of snow still on the ground was just enough to give me the scene I needed for some great outdoor photos. These photos were part of my successful shots that day and came through for me. If we do finally get a snow storm in Boston before spring I’m taking the invitation to photograph Rufus and his his husky bretheren doing a run in the snowy woods. Could be next year though.

Vijay Iyer at Berklee

Back in December of 2011, pianist Vijay Iyer was in Boston to give a joint concert with Miguel Zenon at the Berklee Performance Center. I was one of the few people fortunate enough to be at the intimate class Vijay gave in a Berklee classroom – as a photographer for the Celebrity Series of Boston – where students got a glimpse into his thinking and playing. A special opportunity to hear one of the new generation of jazz musicians exploring and redefining the jazz language.

2011 Masterclasses: Lang Lang

I meant to post these before 2011 ended. I photographed two masterclasses for Celebrity Series of Boston and this is the masterclass given by pianist Lang Lang at Harvard’s Sanders Theatre before his Symphony Hall recital. (Next post is Vijay Iyer and Miguel Zenon at Berklee.)

Kitty: Tilli Tomas Gig

Kitty helped me out last week while shooting some scarves that used Tilli Tomas yarn. Clearly he showed his best stuff for this shoot and really enjoyed wearing this beautiful yarn. The Tilli Tomas owners were very happy as well with his efforts. Sadly he had a tough week with his health this past weekend but he seems to be recovering and getting close to his old friendly self. No modleing for awhile – Drs orders.

I enjoyed this beautiful fall morning spent with Karen and her Cairn Terrier, Robbie as we walked through an Audobon preservation in Belmont, MA. It’s always interesting meeting new people and learning about their lives as I photograph them and figure out what I’m doing. The light and subjects always come through in the end and the photos unfold.

tilli tomas yarn: part 1

I’ve been photographing tilli tomas yarn and the beautiful knitted garments knitted with this yarn for the last month. Tracy Robinson is the owner of this company which is located in Boston and which offers a gogeous array of yarns including yarn spun with beads and sequins. I was able to call on two of my favorite models to show off these wonderful items and this is part one which I did outdoors in my wild lush backyard. There are many changes happening with her growing company and I’m glad to be working with her and photographing her products as she expands in this market of passionate knitters.

MSPCA – Walk for Animals 2011

I was asked again to photograph the MSPCA’s “Walk for Animals” at the Boston Common (along with another photographer/designer Kerry Hawkins) and this year it fell on 9/11 so there was a different feel to the event as other events were taking place there as well. Nevertheless, this event was focused on rasing money for the care and support of animals by the MSPCA-Angell and I was able to experience this event with all the many people who brought their dogs – saw one cat – to the walk and care about raising awareness about this organization. These are some of my favorite shots and yes, they are mostly females posing with their pets but that’s often where my eye goes when looking for the best shots. I’m biased. Enjoy!
